[Phnom Penh, Cambodia, 23 November 2023] – The rising sun graces the streets of Phnom Penh’s Koh Pich with purpose on Thursday, during Koh Pich's first community cleanup initiative as more than 400 individuals who volunteered to participate in the district’s first community-wide clean-up drive activity. In an initiative dubbed" Koh Pich, Our Home", the cleanup effort led by the community of Koh Pich and supported by the Canadia Integrated Group, OCIC and Mega Asset Management covers the whole district with the specific goal of maintaining its communities cleaner through action, education, and social awareness. Through a series of public service announcements highlighting the spirit of volunteerism, the initiative focuses on the promotion of waste reduction, material reuse, and recycling of items that are no longer needed.

Coinciding with the country’s National Environmental Sanitation Day, the initiative similar in goal to that of Phnom Penh Sa-at program as well as the Ministry of Environment’s “no-plastic campaign”, brings together people from all walks of life, from the people who live and work in Koh Pich, as they come together for the first of many campaigns in store. In addition, the initiative aims to strengthen the importance of education in waste management and the value of keeping of maintain the cleanliness of the district which in turn benefits the community, the residents and ultimately, the people who frequent the fast-growing district.

"Koh Pich district is a firm believer in the value of maintaining cleaner communities, therefore, we wanted to launch an initiative that starts at Koh Pich by organizing a cleanup of the neighborhood and the locations we work and live in. In its pilot version, this initiative has happily exceeded expectations by uniting businesses and individuals. With the initial mobilization of residents and office staff, we are pleased to see a positive and promising start.” according to Mr. Touch Samnang, Deputy CEO of OCIC.

"Koh Pich, Our Home is not just a one-time commitment; after this first campaign, we are motivated to move forward with a series of thematic initiatives aimed at sustaining and evolving the good work that has been done so far. Which is why, our team is preparing the next step to turn this initiative into a long-term campaign because we want to contribute to the wider collaborative efforts of the city and inspiring everyone to practice responsible waste management which can be achieved through self-awareness and habit forming and although it will require time to materialize and become common, we are committed to seeing it through. Our mission is to safeguard not just the district of Koh Pich itself, but our city, its resources, and most importantly, its citizens," Mr. Touch Samnang continued.

To increase awareness for a worthy cause and make our communities cleaner and greener through effective waste management and collective action, Koh Pich extends an invitation to everyone to participate in future iterations of this initiative as we start a journey of clean urban spaces for the enjoyment of each and everyone.
